The problem
Brokers moved between eleven disconnected systems to issue a single policy. Every handover was a place for error, delay and lost revenue.
The challenge
The legacy policy engine could not be replaced. Any new experience had to sit on top of it, remain compliant, and go live without interrupting daily trade.
Discovery
Six weeks embedded with brokers and operations. We shadowed real quotes end to end and measured where minutes disappeared — most of them in re-keying data the business already had.
The solution
A unified broker workspace with a single quote flow, live document generation and an integration layer that translates between the legacy engine and the new surface.
Technology
- React
- TypeScript
- Node integration layer
- Postgres
- Event queues
Outcome
Policy issue became a single continuous flow. Brokers stopped switching context, and operations gained a real-time view of the pipeline for the first time.
- — Quote-to-issue reduced from days to the same working session
- — Manual re-keying removed from the critical path
- — Compliance evidence captured automatically at every step
Inside the build
Broker workspace
A single surface across quoting, documents and servicing.
Integration layer
Translation between the legacy engine and the new experience.
Operations view
Live pipeline visibility for the operations team.
What we learned
- — Replacing the system of record is rarely the fastest route to the outcome.
- — The expensive problem was never technology — it was the handovers between people.
